CIRCLE (Communities, Identities, and Research in Collaborative Language Education) is a framework for cooperative, project-based learning conceived jointly at Arizona State University and Columbia University. The model leverages local communities of interest to create collaborative student research projects looking at manifestations of culture and language outside the classroom, and to deliver learning outcomes including digital narratives, jointly written narratives, and contextual documentation of social phenomena. These artifacts can form the basis of continued work by successive cohorts of students and constitute the nucleus of an authentic collection of materials for reuse within a language and culture program.
